Days Out around Perth

Perth is a perfect location in Scotland to base yourself for a truly Scottish holiday whether it is for exploring our castles or touring the world famous distilleries most are within an hours drive.

The beautiful town of Perth lies in the heartland of Scotland in glorious countryside.   Known as the Fair City the town itself offers plenty of activities to see and do as does the surrounding area. Perth provides it’s visitors with a pleasant walking and a safe city centre for shopping. The city centre is clean, tidy and has a spectacular array of flowers and shrubs throughout the summer.

Towering spires, thick stone walls and dramatic settings - whatever pops into your mind when you imagine a castle, you'll find it in Scotland. From magnificent city landmarks to mysterious ruins, Scotland is bursting with fascinating castles to visit. Unlike palaces, which were built for enjoyment, Scotland's castles were built for strength and protection. Their main purpose was to withhold enemy attacks and keep their occupants safe - needless to say each castle has seen plenty of dramatic stories unfold over the centuries!

Perth has some wonderful places to visit right on its door step from the marvellous Sconne Palace, Hunting Tower and of course Balhousie Castle, just a 2 minute walk from Almond Villa, home to the historice Black Watch.

Must-go-to Castles within an hour from Perth are Falkland Palace, Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle, Blair Castle, Dunnotter Castle and Glamis Castle. Even Balmoral Castle is only 1 1/2hrs away!

Must-go-to Whisky Distilleries within an hour from Perth; The famous Grouse Experience (previously Glen Turret), Edradour Distillery, Dalwhinnie, Blair Atholl and Dewars World of Whisky. Plus we also have more modern brewers which are interesting to visit, there is Strathearn Distillery to have a go at creating your own gin or Cairn o'Mohr the Scottish Fruit Wine & Cider company.
